I think every picture has a story behind and that is the beauty about photography. + + etc
I’d been in Mumbai for about six months when I met Nirmal and Sharda, a couple who take care of 30 orphaned or abandoned girls in a shelter in Mumbai. A few months after I met Nirmal, he took over as director of the shelter’s parent organization, the Community Outreach Program CORP. In addition to the shelter, CORP has programs all over Mumbai and its suburbs, helping people to rise up out of poverty through education and support programs. This image was made in their Thane Center, where women were being taught to sew as a path to financial, and therefore social, independence.
